The hitch only sticks out a couple inches at that. Granted they did back up but had they not I'd have put it in reverse so they could see my crazy bright 3rd brake/reverse light.

The step I have is nearly just as bad. Though a bit less edgy.

Well, I have a big hole in the front of my Mazda5 thanks to some idiot in a pickup so I think I know the answer...

Na, the ball works great.
Ask the guy with the hole in his radiator and missing hood/bumper from rear ending my old chevy.....

The hitch wins.
Ask the guy with the hole in his radiator and missing hood/bumper from rear ending my old chevy years ago.....

For him I’d bet it was, he had it coming though.
The guy had been tailgating me ( talking could only see his antenna in my rear view ) for roughly 15 miles. When the road broke into 4 lanes, he stayed right on my ass. I finally had enough approaching a stop light and dropped 1st gear at 35 mph.
I felt the crunch, grabbed 2nd and pulled away. When I looked back there was a pool of antifreeze coming from the gaping hole in his radiator , his hood and front bumper were scattered on the road, and he was just sitting there looking totally dumbfounded. Surprisingly, his airbags never deployed.
When the cop finally showed up, he looked the truck over with me, got my statement, and sent me on my way. His car got loaded on a flatbed, he got slapped with numerous tickets, and likely had a really bad day in general.
